That shimmering profusion of white and green--

an illusion creating confusion in one new to the scene.

Rue the newbie who brought a whitetop bouquet to the branding lunch.

The hostess took her aside, shattered her pride, and  decreed,

“Whitetop is a noxious, pernicious, good-for-nothing weed!”

Now, some of us hate broccoli
